Need help on Lirc

Hi!

I`m trying to set up my remote control to use with xine on Acer 7720g. I read arch-wiki about lirc and  tried to follow everything that written there, but i can`t get far.

Well, what i did is:

installed lirc and lirc-utils with pacman.

Than, as wiki says, i have to check for a serial port it`s using. I run

dmesg|grep ttyS

and it doesn`t return anything. Running

dmesg|grep tty

gives me:

console [tty0] enabled

. loading serial module

sudo modprobe lirc_serial

doesn`t give me any errors. So far so good, but when i run

sudo irrecord -d /dev/lirc0 /tmp/my_remote

and start pressing buttons on my remote, after 10 seconds it says:

irrecord: no data for 10 secs, aborting
irrecord: gap not found, can't continue

Any ideas? I checked BIOS to see if irda is on, but there aren`t any options related to it.

For the record, infra red receivers are best tested with the utility mode2 because it will display the pulse/space length of all infrared signals, not dependent on the remote etc. When you establish that your receiver is working then you proceed with setting up lircd.

I checked BIOS to see if irda is on

As for you, you need to read this ASAP http://www.tuxmobil.org/Infrared-HOWTO/ … -irda.html

You need to install an RTFM interface.
