zattoo (3.2.4.15876) not starting - only as root

Hi,

I've installed zattoo (3.2.4.15876) from AUR including all dependencies.

If I try to start it I only see it for a few seconds saying "starting" and the the  window closes.

In terminal I get:

zattoo_player: /usr/lib/zattoo/libcurl.so.3: no version information available (required by zattoo_player)
19:22:44 19.08.2008 [MSG]    Current locale is LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8;LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.utf8;LC_TIME=de_DE.utf8;LC_COLLATE=C;LC_MONETARY=de_DE.utf8;LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.utf8;LC_PAPER=de_DE.utf8;LC_NAME=de_DE.utf8;LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.utf8;LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.utf8;LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.utf8;LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.utf8
19:22:44 19.08.2008 [MSG]    Wilkommen bei Zattoo (3.2.4.15876)
19:22:44 19.08.2008 [MSG] Further log messages will be written to /home/thomas/.Zattoo/Data/logs/zattoo.debuglog
Speicherzugriffsfehler

I think the last word is translated as "segmentation fault". If I take a look at the debuglog, there are no informations available.

If I start zattoo_player as root, I get the message that adobe flash was not installed (flashplugin ist installed) but everything works fine, though.

So, why can't I start it as a normal user?

Thanks

Barghest

Maybe a problem with the rights management? Do you have access to ~/.Zattoo ? Maybe you could create a new user, give him (or her? tongue ) the needed rights (I think the groups video and audio should be enough..) and start it from there. The Speicherzugriffsfehler (in English "segmentation fault") appears on my machine with lxrandr (an xrandr tool in LXDE), when I do some changes (Themes, etc. .. the stuff you do, when you make your desktop look the way you want), but on a fresh account it doesn't appear, so maybe it's the same here (because of that: create new user and test it then)

Army, thanks for the hint. I already checked the permissions for ~/.Zattoo and they seemed right. I also deleted the whole folder so that zattoo recreates it.

I created another user which has no problems and can start zattoo.

So, what do you recommend now?

Did you add the new user in groups? If so, which ones? In which groups are you?  The rights management thing is the only thing I can imagine being the reason for this...

Re: zattoo (3.2.4.15876) not starting - only as root

I made an observation ;b

I installed the beta from AUR and with my current user starting zattoo_player still fails.

Then I logged to my new user and when I started zattoo with him I was asked for a password. It was in German and don't really know how to translate it but it had something to do with a "keyring". I entered my root password and zattoo worked.

My normal user wasn't asked for a password. So I guess it has something to do with that.

Re: zattoo (3.2.4.15876) not starting - only as root

After talking to army and google around i tried the following (with no sucess)

I createt a .keyring.sh and started it in the .xinitrc

#!/bin/sh
eval `gnome-keyring-daemon`
export GNOME_KEYRING_PID
export GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET

htop says the gnome-keyring-daemon is running. I also deleted the folder zattoo in ~/.gconf/apps and rebooted.

Still I get the segmentation fault. But not with my new user for that I didn't edited any config.

After the installation of the new zattoo-beta today the problem still exists.

Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue as you. Did you find a proper fix for it? Which package from AUR are you using?

I had the same problem. Strace showed it had something to do with java. After removing openjdk6 it worked suddenly. So i replaced openjdk6 with suns jdk from community and am happy now smile

@mockfrog

Thanks for this hint, zattoo works now with jre instead of openjdk6.
