[probably solved] grub sometimes stuck on manual select

Hey everyone,

if I use the keyboard to manually select one of the entries GRUB sometimes gets stuck and just wont start the boot process.
However, sometimes it would work without me having changed anything.

If I let GRUB boot any entry automatically and give no keyboard input it boots fine everytime.

Any idea of what's causing that and how I could fix it?
Thanks!

Edit:
I get
ata1 softreset failed device not ready
ata2 softreset failed device not ready
ata3 softreset failed device not ready
when booting.
I'm pretty sure that it's a hardware thing since I don't have that problem on my laptop (on which i have the same version of GRUB installed).
I've added all_generic_ide to kernel line in GRUB and it seems to work now, although i still get the "device not ready"-message when booting.
