(SOLVED)Brightness reset when booting up XP

Hello, I have an Asus 1000HE dual booted with Windows XP and the latest kernel of Arch.

When I reboot from Arch my brightness on the XP scale defaults to 0. Note: the brightness resets to 0 BEFORE I load XP (it is dim in the GRUB menu).

gnome-powermanager corrects the brightness issue when I run gnome (still dim during gdm though), but XP doesn't.

How can I stop the brightness from 'resetting' when I reboot Arch?

Can anyone help me? I found the brightness setting in

/sys/class/backlight/conf.d/brightness

but this value resets to 0 when I restart my computer.

Problem solved. I booted gdm with inittab instead of a daemon.
