KDE4 shutdown fails [SOLVED]

After my latest upgrade of KDE something has gone wrong ... When I click "Turn Off Computer" it behaves as if I pressed "Log Out" and instead of shutting off it logs me off and stays at the log in box instead of shutting down.

It seems to me I'm the only one experiencing this problem, at least I see no other people posting about it. Does anyone have any idea as to what may cause this ?

I decided, if I hit Logout, instead of Shutdown, I don't get quite so irritated at my computer.

I know, not helpful....

You can always use:

sudo shutdown -h now

i'm getting the same thing, but not just at shutdown.

i think what happens is that X crashes during some operations and you get thrown back to the login manager.

for me it happens during
* boot - sometimes KDE will load to almost 100%, then throw me back to KDM login
* using xrandr - trying to do anything with xrandr either does nothing or throws me back to KDM
* shutdown using kdes shutdown button

i'm using all the latest packages from testing with KMS enabled. i suspect it hast something to do with changing screen modes/resolutions.

You may have the problem reported here:

and elsewhere. In which case it's not that the system logs you off when you shutdown, it's that the shutdown attempt causes a kwin crash, which gets you back to kdm. The effect is of cause the same.

To confirm, try kwin --replace. If I'm right, kwin will crash. So save before trying it.

To fix this, downgrade to the following versions:

xf86-video-intel 2.7.0-3
libgl 7.4.1-1
mesa 7.4.1-1
intel-dri 7.4.1-1

The solution I'm using for now is:
1. press the button (as usual) to shut down
2. when I'm thrown in the log in dialogue I press Alt+s and then press Enter.

It's fast and all ... just annoying

This should be fixed in the latest packages. Could you test it and mark the thread as solved if things work?
