Okay, the kde apps for printing are starting up and displaying normally. The system-config-printer-kde program said that I was missing foomatic-rip? I read that I should install the foomatic-db, foomatic-db-engines, and the foomatic-filters packages to fix this...but it didn't help. Anyone got a clue?

It should have been in extra/foomatic-filters:
bp:~$ pacman -Ql foomatic-filters | grep foomatic-rip
foomatic-filters /usr/bin/foomatic-rip
foomatic-filters /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip
foomatic-filters /usr/lib/ppr/interfaces/foomatic-rip
foomatic-filters /usr/lib/ppr/lib/foomatic-rip
foomatic-filters /usr/share/man/man1/foomatic-rip.1.gz
Which printer do you use? It might be necessary to add vendor specific cups drivers. In case of e.g. HP you will need the foomatic-db-hpijs package as well.
Also have a look at the Cups wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cups

For future reference, pkgfile from pkgtools rocks:
~ > pkgfile foomatic-rip
extra/foomatic-filters

And I switched back to KDEMod3, but that didn't seem to fix the problem...what other printing related packages should I install?

Well it isn't complaining about that anymore...it's just that it accepts the job, but never prints it. I'm thinking I might need to downgrade cups.
