general question about mkinicpio

Hi guys,

mkinitcpio was developed at Archlinux. All other GNU/Linux world doesn't use it. Can anyone specify why don we need this bicycle... I mean why do we go our own way? smile

I think it's because Arch doesn't even use a ramdisk at all — it's a cpio archive that expands itself into the root filesystem and gives the kernel something to use. Whereas tools such as mkinitrd create disk images.
