I would suggest skipping all the gui editors and starting with vim right away if you want to be productive. You can use it for XHTML, CSS, PHP, JS and everything else as well.

Geany is a nice almost-IDE. I used it for a long time until I decided to start using vim full-time.

Personally i use VIM, but if i feel like using an IDE, i use Eclipse with php module..

You can also try Netbeans, if you'd like a fully featured IDE. It's quite good.
