enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

I saw enlightenment 17 pre5 with all other tools (like entice and entrance) in Rensel's repository.
I would like to know if all of this was usable. Can I test it without break all my system ?

I tried entrance and it loaded up porperly and showed me all of the installed desktops that were on my system as choices.  But, no matter which one I chose (including enlightenment itself), I would always end up at a XFWM desktop with a console window opened on startup.

Everything in his repository is compiled from CVS, so you should consider it to be unstable.
Entrance worked OK here.
But the enlightenment-devel is quite crude (basically unusable).

But he warned about that on his announcement.

Re: enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

I know this is a bit aggressive, but if rensel's out there, could you please try to update the e17 code in your repo? I've been trying to compile the window manager myself, but I keep getting syntax errors. If you could get those packages online, I will forever be your slave! The screenies on enlightenment.org and Raster's website are enough to make me drool. I've been waiting for this for three years!

Thanks,

God

Well, I have just updated my Enlightened packages, so you'll be able to download them as soon as they are synced up.
As E17 is now in CVS, enlightenment-devel package has been replaced by e17-cvs.
I really think it's worth trying it  wink

Re: enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

Bless you, amigo, bless you.

P.S. Is there any reason why I kept getting stupid syntax errors while compiling the window manager itself? I kept getting errors saying that several structs in border.h were missing semicolons, but they weren't...

Anyhow, thanks so much!

CVS stuff changes very quickly, so probably you didn't have updated ecore libs.

Re: enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

Perhaps something is screwy with my build tools or something, cuz I made the cvs pull 2 hours ago and could build everything but e... but if you did the work for me, why me worry???

smile

Thanks a bundle. I look forward to the experience.

E17 looks mighty cool.

I can't figure out how to edit the menus or anything, though.  I want to be able to launch an Eterm, or whatever...  smile

Re: enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

Rensel:  nice job!

Thanks!

Now, a request...

Would it be feasible to create a pkgbuild for the filemanager, evidence as well?

Thanks again!

To get a sample menu, just decompress /opt/e17/share/enlightenment/data/other/favorite_apps.tar.gz to ~/.e/e/applications/favorite. If you want to add your own entries, look at the unofficial documentation at http://lude.net/edocs/.

Re: enlightenment in Rensel's repository -> does it works ?

Will it mess up my Enlightenment 16 installation if I try to install Enlightenment 17? I guess not, but better to be safe than sorry smile

Nice work btw rensel, I have been waiting for this since I started using Enlightenment 16 half a year ago.
