[request] root software of cern

My gcc version is 4.4.
I can't succed in building from the source. The aur/root method also don't works for me.

Can anybody provide the binary or PKGBUiLD?

How to suggest the Archlinux official to provide this software? I think it is a very useful tool.

It has 21 votes in the AUR - you could ask on the aur-general list if a TU might like to adopt it and put it in the community repo.

I have 5.21 installed fine on x86_64 (and i686 for that matter) with the previous gcc.

I'm attempting to update it now, will see how it goes..

Yeah, definitely doesn't work.

The package maintainer seems to be working on a fix though.

This might help you tweak the pkgbuild to what you need, though need the best way I guess..

nobody can send a binary to someone without knowing what architecture they need either btw..

According to Themaister in the threat "gcc3 compiling environment" (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 48#p489748), he pointed out that using:

./configure --enable-qt --disable-krb5 (CURSE YOU KRB5!!!! Hope it isn't important)

he was able to compile root from source.

It worked for me too. I was able to compile root5.22.00 from source using gcc4.3.3.
KRB5 is "Kerberos: The Network Authentication Protocol". But since I do not plan to use it remotely, I believe it doesn't matter anyway. And about qt... well i got it installed in my system along with djview so it's OK for me that other flag.

Haha Another Root user. Ye, Root/AliRoot is a real pain in the ass to set up, and it works to disable krb, but I used 4.3.3 at the time (4.4.0 is probably the problem). I think I have a precompiled root on my hdd somewhere... However, CERN provides precompiled binaries if that isn't an issue. I'm glad I don't have to work with that software anymore though. Too arcane for me.
