Package conflict problem

Hi,

Tried to install gnome and got this:

5b4az tmp # pm -S gnome
:: group gnome:
    control-center gal gnome-common gnome-desktop gnome-icon-theme gnome-mime-data
    gnome-panel gnome-session gnome-themes gnome2-user-docs gtkhtml libsoup metacity
    nautilus rep-gtk vte yelp
    Install whole content? [Y/n] y
:: gnome-common-2.8.0-1: is up to date.  Upgrade anyway? [Y/n] n
:: gnome-mime-data-2.4.2-1: is up to date.  Upgrade anyway? [Y/n] n
:: cups conflicts with ghostscript-lprng. Remove ghostscript-lprng? [Y/n] n

error: package conflicts detected

I would like to keep lprng, so how should I handle this?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Package conflict problem

you have to find which package has conflicts with lprng (likely one has a dependency on cups) and recompile it without cups support then add the arch package to your ignorepkg list.

better yet pose this as bug to the maintainers. some people out there would prefer to use lprng AND gnome without having to recompile packages themself. i now use cups but before i left arch for a stint with crux i used lprng (i was one of the ones tha originally made this package for arch) and was always annoyed when i one of the gnome components i had was upgraded and i had to go through the hassle of recompiling it without cups support. it REALLY annoyed me.

Re: Package conflict problem

good man. sorry i never got around to it but I actually thought the gnome devs would never agree to making two copies of whatever gnome package causes the problem ( it used to be two package that were the culprit).
