Hello!
I have a Brother MFC-440CF printer and scanner. The printer works well, but I can not get the scanner to work.
I have installed the Brother latest brscan2 drivers from aur. I have added 'brother2' to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf, and I have done a
# brsaneconfig2 -a name=MFC440CN model=MFC-440CN ip=10.0.0.12
# brsaneconfig2 -q | grep MFC440CN
0 MFC440CN "MFC-440CN" I:10.0.0.12
But when I start xsane, all I get is my integrated camera. How can I change from the integrated camera to the scanner.
# scanimage -L
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Integrated Camera virtual device

remove the v4l entry of your dll.conf to disable the camera detection. Have a look on sane's manpage about LIBSANE_DEBUG. It might help finding out your problem.

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

It removed the camera. Did not find anything called LIBSANE_DEBUG in the man pages or by google.
I have moved the scanner from the network, and connected it through USB. But still no luck. Sane-find-scanner detects the scanner, but scanimage do not.
# sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04f9, product=0x01af) at libusb:006:002
found USB scanner (vendor=0x08ff, product=0x2810 [Fingerprint Sensor]) at libusb:004:002
# scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Does your scanner backend have sort of configuration file? Because, I got a epson MFC, which if I don't set explicitly the usb device (by vendor and device), It doesn't get detected.

I have a similar problem with my CanoScan LiDE 200. It only detects my USB camera, when I removed v4l, it didn't detect anything.
Unfortunately my model isn't supported by Linux :-(
