Keep adding to it as and when you encounter new file types. Soon, the list will be populated

No, the problem is that it _never_ gets filled up. Mine is still empty even though i've specified several file type associations.
They associations work fine though. You just can't see them in the list.

Well, I've been having the very same problem here as well, but with thunderbird (not in firefox)... In the past, but also now with kde 4.2.2 / kdemod.
The associations list is always empty and the default associations are definitely not KDE's ones (seem gnomish though gnome is not installed).
In firefox, I can see my kde apps in the list...

Similar problem here. The list isn't empty; it contains Podcast (preview in gran paradiso), mailto (always ask), Video Podcast (preview in gran paradiso), Web feed (preview in gran paradiso), and webcal (always ask). There are no other choices, and if I click on something not on that list, my only choice is save or cancel, no "open with." Sure would like to find a way to import my associations from my previous distro.

Yea, I have the same problem too. Never have found a solution though. Very annoying.
I'm the type to fling myself headlong through the magical wardrobe, and then incinerate the ornate mahogany portal behind me with a Molotov cocktail.

Well, just in case... Any progress ? I'm still very annoyed by this issue
(inconsistent files associations under thunderbird + kde... Filetypes list empty, etc.)

I've just happened to stumble upon this before:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/index.php?opti … 5.5%3Bwap2
It talks about how file associations can only be changed by root user. Maybe kdemod is causing permission problems somehere.

Thanks for the tip ! The entry (in the config editor) they refer too doesn't exist in Thunderbird though, unfortunately,
cheers !
