Updated a few packages three days ago and BAM...i cannot login. I have been using e17 for 3 days. If someone is having this problem or even better knows how to fix it, please let me know. I have already searched and posted on chakraforums and currently awaiting answers.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

More information is indeed needed, though I'm wondering if you're referring to the bug where kdm restarts when you log in, sending you immediately back to the login screen. That's one that has happened to me a bunch of times, and is caused by some missing files.

Yes thats sounds like it. So its a bug and its happening on Arch kde too. Has anyone gotten around it?

Sorry, forgot to mention I use kdemod as well. If that is indeed your bug, I never did figure out exactly what causes it. I think it's related to some missing files since the fix (this does work since I have run into this same bug at least five times) has been to install more kdemod packages. I can't even specify what packages since it was different packages each time, but somehow after installing more kdemod stuff the dependencies got resolved along the way and kdm stopped resetting after login, letting me finish logging in.
First time I ran into it my reseach indicated it was related to policykit somehow, but that may be completely wrong.
It would be great if anyone could actually find out the cause of this problem so they could fix it, I've been running into it ever since kdemod 4.2 was released.

This is really irritating. Still no word from the kdemod devs. Im going to install some kde stuff and maybe that will bring it back . Its worth a shot right now.

each time that you have a problem with login, switch to vc2 and check ownership of ~/.ICEauthority
if root is the owner, change it back to user/user group.
For this you don't need to restart kde. next switch back to vc7 and continue login

The file ~/.ICEauthority doesnt even exist. I remember it being there but its gone now.

move ~/.kde4 to ~/kde4
move ~/.kde to ~/kde
move ~/.kderc to ~/kderc
the above will clean up (and backup) you config kde4 setup, if you still cant log in then an issue is with you specific setup, not with kdemod.
in such case (still unable to log in after removing configuration folders/files) uninstall kdemod, clean up leftovers, reinstall kdemod.

I found an even better way to fix it. Make a new user, log in works fine and then copy my file sover. I cant believe i didnt think of this earlier. Thanks for the help guys. Hope this doesnt happen again anytime soon.

How is that better than mv .kde kde? Its much more work to do the same thing
