Play chiptunes with MPlayer

Hi

Is it possible to play XM/MOD/SID, etc. using MPlayer?  If not, what would you recommend?  I'd like something curses-ish, or at least CLI.  GUI is a no-go.  I'd also not like to use MPD for this.

It is possible to compile mplayer with support for xmms input plugins. I have no idea if that works properly.
There are several command line programs to play chiptunes (uade, sidplay2, xmp, ...).
