Error in locking authority file .Xauthority [Solved]

Hi,

I am having a little trouble with X after a fresh install.  I can start X fine as root, but as a normal user it just says "error in locking authority file .Xauthority."  I have never had this problem before so I don't really know what do to, and searching didn't clear anything up for me, so if someone could give me some advice I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

Edit:  Solved by deleting all the .Xauthority files and starting X again.

Check the permissions on ~/.Xauthority, and make sure your non-root user owns it. You could also just delete it as normal non-root user and try again- it will get re-created when you run xinit/startx.

Thanks, that worked.  I just deleted all the .Xauthority files and it worked fine.
