eee PC 1002HA video driver, Xorg config

Well I have arch configured and KDE installed, now on to tweaking.  It seems like the image quality (color depth off maybe) isn't as good as KDE on openSUSE.  I have a few questions:

Which driver is preferable:
xf86may-video-intel-legacy 2.3.2-3
xf86-video-intel 2.7.1-1
I installed the legacy as per advice that I read in a guide for the 1000HA in the wiki.
I didn't use a xorg.conf, as the guide said it wasn't needed, and when I ran Xorg -configure and tested the xorg.conf.new file it wouldn't fully initialize X windows......simply a startx would.
I plan on running KDE with compositing enabled...very little gaming (it will mainly be emulators, etc.), and really the only effects I will use are desktop cube, windows flip/present, transparency, and blurring.
I read that the newer Intel may not work as well with compositing enabled, but I wonder if this has changed since this article was written?

Thanks in advance for the input.
