any AVI i download via rtorrent is unopenable

ok, to reformulate my problem.

all is fine with mplayer, seems to be somehow rtorrent's fault.

the AVI files that are downloaded via rtorrent aren't even recognized as legit video files, either in linux or windoze.

I don't have any problems with files downloaded by rtorrent. You could install transmission, configure it to the same output path as in rtorrent, so it will find the already downloaded package and  does an integrity check. In case it finds faults, it'll redownload these parts. In case it doesn't find faults, I guess you simply chose a bad source for your illegal little download action tongue

There's no need to install Transmission do to a hash check on the downloaded files.
Press ^R in main view to initiate hash check on the selected torrent.
You can also enable automatic hash check on complete in the .rtorrent.rc.

there's no place like ~/
