Have you changed the mirror in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and checked that the one there now works/exists? Show us /etc/pacman.conf and /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist if that doesn't prove to be the issue, and maybe someone can figure it out. Also couldn't hurt to tell us how much space your used arch partitions have, as that occasionally causes weird things to happen for people, but it's far far more likely to be a mirror/pacman.conf issue.

# REPOSITORIES
# - can be defined here or included from another file
# - pacman will search repositories in the order defined here
# - local/custom mirrors can be added here or in separate files
# - repositories listed first will take precedence when packages

# Repository entries are of the format:

# Server = ServerName
# Include = IncludePath
#
# The header [repo-name] is crucial - it must be present and
# uncommented to enable the repo.
#
# Testing is disabled by default. To enable, uncomment the following

It looks like your mirrorlist went missing somewhere. You can reinstall the mirrorlist package by hand:
If you run i686:
pacman -U ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/core/os/i686/pacman-mirrorlist-20090509-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
If you run x86_64:
pacman -U ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/core/os/x86_64/pacman-mirrorlist-20090509-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
Then edit /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and uncomment the mirrors you want to use.
