Re: Arch Philosophy/Structure Applied to a Browser

Even though uzbl seems like an interesting project it would take a lot to make me switch from Firefox. It is the extensions that make me keep coming back to it.  With some tweaks it runs at acceptable speeds for me (things like turn off google-phone-home blocklist, turn on pipelining, hosts file instead of adblock plus etc.).

Re: Arch Philosophy/Structure Applied to a Browser

Sorry, but theres no such thing as a non GUI webbrowser. Its just not efficient. Webpages are too full of multimedia to try to use any sort of text based browser.

Id say if you really want something simple, its gonna have to be GUI. Sounds like an interesting idea though!

I used links when I first installed Arch. It got me up and running pretty damn quick. So don't tell me "there's no such thing as a non-GUI web browser".

ROTLF

And whether it's efficient depends on what pages are you viewing: Flash goat p0rn movies anyone?

On-topic: The various text-based browsers are actually quite good for web pages that don't rely on a graphical browser in order to render properly — for example, most HTML mailing list archives.

@Peasantoid
Thanks for the heads up. I had it coming, I broke my own rule: don't drink and post.
And I learned sth new today: QFT means sth besides quantum field theory :-)
