After 'yaourt -Suy' this morning, running testing/vim 7.2.166-1 fails with the following error:
vim: error while loading shared libraries: libruby.so.1.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
ruby was just updated in [testing] to 1.9.1_p129-1
vim (and gvim) are symlinked to vim-big, which depends libruby, so both 'vim' and 'gvim' give that same error.
Since the 'vim-normal' command still works (does not depend on libruby), those who can't live without vim (like me) needn't panic.

Edit, nvm. Didn't read the last sentence.
If you only use vim, just uninstall gvim and your problem will go away.

Sorry, I was subscribed to the arch-devl-public mailing list, but in digest form, so I receive Allan's post on the issue after encountering the problem. I've switch to non-digest mode.

This is my little experiment to see who sends me more hate mail: ruby users for not updating to to the 1.9 branch or gvim users. So far ruby users have the edge...
Seriously, I hope that this will be fixes soon.

I'm very sorry for my ignorance - I've been using testing without being subscribed to the dev mailing list. I've already remedied my mistake and I'm on the list.
I was trying to find the message you had quoted in the list's archive, but there doesn't seem to be any. Hence, could you please tell me whether there is a workaround for this problem? gvim is a kind of essential for my work.
Many thanks, Kašpi.

Work arounds:
1) if you really only need vim and not gvim, uninstall gvim
2) "pacman -S extra/ruby" then add ruby to IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf

well, that fixed me not being able to copy/paste between vim's
Thank you.
EDIT
oops, no it doesn't :S

thats a completely different issue.. simply do a ":set mouse=r"
