Hello, if I understand correctly, pacman -Sy will sync the packages with the repo server, is this the same as apt-get update? I am from ubuntu, and want to try arch. Thanks.

That's so.
pacman -Sy = apt-get update
pacman -Su = apt-get dist-upgrade
pacman -Syu = do both

Thanks I get it now, and then that means that:
pacman -S [Package] would equal apt-get install [Package]. That makes sense.

When I do:
pacman -Sy it returns:
[Err] Couldn't syncronize(sp?) any packages, or something along those lines, o example it couldn't syncronize to the core, whatever that means, can I get some feedback?

Sorry for err.... tripple posting, but I just looked at /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and none of the mirrors were enabled. I enabled 2 and it works, problem solved .
