Personally I most often use PyPanel. It's minimal, fast, and very customizable. From time to time I also use xfce4-panel because it goes with the GTK theme. Another good one that no one has suggested yet is Visibility. It's kind of like a mix between a pager and a tasklist that only shows icons. Here's a screenshot of it in action. It's the top left.

I'm now looking at tint2 homepage, and it looks like it has some similar option... Can anyone confirm this to me? I guess trying out tint2 will be the first thing Ill do as soon as I get home.

What, no lxpanel fans here? Well, let me be the one to say I love it. It is lightweight, functional, has few dependencies, and does transparency well.

Yeah I'm an lxpanel user as is my Dad. We like the simplicity, tray, and fact it has a full menu and clock etc.

I just love how light openbox and lxde are, so it made sense to stay with their panel.

Also using openbox & lxpanel so I don't have to bother about systray, etc.
Also I really like its look if set to fully transparent.

Tint2 has a built in systray too (for a while already).

Discovered that when I did a reinstall some days ago.
Combined with tintwizard-svn it's a perfect combination for a panel.

After trying lxpanel and fbpanel I also ended at tint2. It's just what I looked for, but I have to admit it has been quite some time since I looked at lxpanel.

I liked both Xfce Panel and Tint2.  But, in the end, Tint2 won, because it is simple and lightweight.  Xfce Panel is nice, but each of its applets can use up to fourteen megabytes of RAM each.

And it doesn't do proper transparency. I'm not a developer, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be all that difficult to add that functionality, considering so many other panels have it.

i just tried cbpanel in the AUR
i think this one has pwning power against all other panels i've ever used.

(there's a module in the pack, named wnck.so, should remove it and install gnome-python-desktop)

I liked a lot cbpanel, but it wasn't really lightweight. Pancake is lightweight, simple and uses GTK themes too.

Personally I think tint2 is the panel for openbox.

besides, although tint2 has massive configuration capabilities, lacking a key function makes it not appealing to me: auto-hide.

when there's a maximized window, you can see there is a huge contradictions of styles on screen.

*Edit: finding that openbox without any panel is kinda nice.
all i really need is some widget, coping with netwmpager + stalonetray + lalcal right now.
