Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

I been meaning to get around to asking about this........

Been having this problem for sometime now.
Amarok will skip to the next track after only playing a few seconds of the current track....This happens randomly and not w/ every track. It seems to happen more when I have a lot of different things running....azureus, opera, and pidgin are what I use most.

Don't know if it's a disk problem, xine problem, or what.

I use stock kernel. w/ kde-mod. Also happened w/ amarok-svn.

I only use 3 amarok scripts; amarok-nowplaying, amarok-pidgin, and replay-gain.

Also I use mysql for database.

Another thing amarok takes ages to startup fully > 1 min sometimes, w/ less than 2000 songs in my collection.

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

Obvious question, but does it play normally when the scripts aren't running? I find that scripts you wouldn't expect to have any effect on playback can cause skips and glitches. Never had anything as bad as that, though.

As for the startup speed, I suspect mysql. I've found sqlite to be much faster. YMMV, of course. (I don't know a thing about sql "under the hood"; I'm only reporting my own experience.)

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

Thanks... I am thinking it may have to do w/ the scripts I am running...Disabled all but replay gain as I can not live w/o it. Havn't had time to really "test" to see if that fixed the problem or not. But will report back.

As far as using sqlite, I thought it was the other way around, meaning mysql was supoosed to be faster, which is why I changed to mysql in the first place.

I want to be able to try and go back to sqlite but alas there is no way to convert mysql=>sqlite w/ the current version of amarok, and I want my stats:)

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

Heh. smile As I said, I know nothing about sql. The reason I mentioned it is that I found Amarok on Arch to be faster than under other distros I've used, and the only difference I could see was the database engine. It could just be Arch, of course. If it was easier to switch it might be worth a try I suppose, but as you say, it isn't.

As far as the track skipping, it seems to be only happening when using azureus at the same time.... So I guess it could be disk related?

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

Hello guys!

I got the same problem with the new Amarok (2.0.x) and with the amarok2-svn as well. I found nothing helpful on the internet, so I decided to post it anyway.

When I am adding some songs to the playlist and starting with the first one amarok tends to skip the second and sometimes even the third song. One or two seconds of the second song are being played, but then the the third or fourth songs starts beging played. It's irritating when you want to listen to a whole album... Well, I found no solution, maybe you out here know something about it.

O and yeah, Amarok 1.4. doesn't have these problems, I know. But it would be nice to are able to make use of the new version, because it's looks great and has some nice new features...

Thanks in advance,

Piotr!

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

I have a similar problem in that double clicking a song in the playlist, or skipping forward, will often cause playback to start about 10-20 seconds into the chosen song.  I don't have any scripts running, although I did have replaygain running for a while.  For what it's worth, I have exclusively FLAC files.

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

It's been happening in Amarok for quite awhile, personally I ran into this bug atleast a year ago and others report it even longer ago. It seems to be something to do with the encoding of the songs as some songs skip and others don't and it's consistant to the songs. The only solution I'm ever seen that I haven't tried and thus cannot say doesn't work is transcoding using ffmpeg, but, transcoding...: / yeah.

Seems about right. This thread is a year and half old.

Maybe instead of transcoding, just see if muxing it into a new container works:

ffmpeg -i <INPUT>.flac -acodec copy <OUTPUT>.flac

Re: Amarok skips to next track after only playing track for a few seconds

same issues here, and why should we have to transcode/edit a file that works on every other application except for amarok?

Tried 1.4, 2, svn, still the same issues.

awesome amarok just died on me again lol

Thank god for -Rsn!

Somehow plasma applet "Now playing" is causing that problem at kde4. At least, closing that applet solved my problem.

I don't have that plasma,  and the problem is still giving me issues

Hope it gets solved, it is really annoying. smile

Enjoy!

Thanks dude, but what is that guy talking about, this problem is present in 1.4 AND 2.0. If you'd like you can tell him i'm havin these issues using their recent amarok client.

foobar is hands down the best if you ask me, but for some reason wine+foobar makes the audio sound a bit "hollow" when I listen to classical hmm

amarok is great, but skipping ahead of each tracks is annoying.

amarok 2.0.96-1

amarok 2.1-1 here, same issues even after an upgrade.

foobar works great, but the sound sounds "hollow" compared to amarok
