Tips for Upgrading Motherboard/CPU in Dell Desktop

I was thinking about replacing my mobo, power supply, processor, and graphics cards with newer, more powerful components.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I am able to upgrade the motherboard with the Dell Inspiron 531, as I heard that I would have to remove and replace the "control panel" in the front.  Without upgrading this, will I still be able to access the SSE4.1 instructions found in the Phenom II X2 chip I am interested in?  Will I still be able to make use of the L3 Cache?  Is there any way I can add memory to my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 8600GT) without having to buy a new one?

Thank you
