org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no [solved]

my external hardrive is connected and turned on. its worked with my friends linux setup so i know its not the hard drive. i get the following error message. im new to linux, just yesterday actually so any help would be nice and phrase it so a newb can keep up haha. thanks!

Failed to mount "300G Volume".
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result).

noxtagbacks - as already suggested, please search the forum and the wiki before asking questions here.

phil90 - a link to the relevant wiki page is sufficient. Pasting the information here as well is unnecessary duplication.

im a newb i didnt know what to look for

fyi - searching for the "org.freedesktop.etc" error in the wiki would have brought you to the same page that phil90 gave you.

yeah i never would have thought to do that. i looked up external hard drive acces issues or something to that effect. i need to learn the language a little more. but im a quick learner so bear with me for a bit
