keyboard and mouse do not work when x is started

hey i just installed arch linux with fluxbox. i've installed hal as well. whenever i start x my keyboard and mouse do not work at all. i'm  a bit new to arch and am not sure how to go about solving the problem. any help would be appreciated.

Install xf86-input-mouse, xf86-input-keyboard and restart system.
