spell checker will not acknowledge incorrect words.

I am extremely new to this OS i use Arch Linux, im trying to figure out how i can get spell checker to work, it does not outline the incorrect words in the red squiggles and when i try to use spell check all it says is "continue spelling at beginning?" then when i click yes it says that spelling is complete but i misspelled words on purpose and it doesn't even recognize them as wrong what should i do?

Re: spell checker will not acknowledge incorrect words.

I also faced the same issue. To get the spell check and thesaurus working first hook up the correct dictionary  using extension manager from the tools menu in the open office writer. you can find dictionary  in /opt/openoffice/share/extension/install. Now from the writers Tools-->option---->language settings----->writing aids check the boxes you required. Your spell check is ready. By the way, check the openoffice install comments in the pacman log which cleary state this.  tongue

Re: spell checker will not acknowledge incorrect words.

Read the Openoffice wiki article.

xtension management and spell checking for OpenOffice 3.x

    * see OpenOffice Extension site
    * Old openoffice-spell packages are obsolete.
    * Spell checking is done via new extensions. There are three ways to install such a extension:
    * 1) Use the Extension manager from OOo menu for download and installation - installs only for the user into his ~/.openoffice.org/3/user/uno_packages/cache
    * 2) Download the extension and install it using "unopkg add extension" for the user or
    * 3) Download the extension and install it using "unopkg add --shared extension" for every user on the system (requires root permission)
    * 4) The Arch package is now shipped with some dictionaries and these get deployed automatically. Check Extension manager if your language is already there.

If spellcheck does not work for you immediately after install, check the directory

/opt/openoffice/share/extension/install

Inside there should be several files called

/opt/openoffice/share/extension/install/dict-<LANG>.oxt

Use the Extension Manager to add your language dictionary; this often enables spellcheck.
