Since a few weeks mplayer has stopped showing movies fullscreen on my TV. It used to show movies fullscreen @ 1024x768 (TV resolution) while my monitor runs at 1280x1024. Now it shows the movie @ 1280x1024.
I'm using a TV connected with S-VIDEO to a Geforce 9 card. Setup is twinview clone mode. xine still works fine for me so I guess it's a mplayer problem. Using -xineramascreen does not fix the problem either

Sound familiar http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=73310, however bleichmittel wrote (s)he uses mostly vlc.

I 'm not sure, if it is the same problem. On my TV the output is always to large for the Television (not depending on an application, it is to large with desktop-view too and no matter which configs or which resolution I have chosen so far). You could try to choose different resolutions, i. e. you should try to use the same resolution (1024x768) for your TV and your Monitor. Perhaps your xorg.conf would help. How to you switch/activate TV? (xrandr, nvidia-settings, tv is always on, etc.) Btw, do you own a LCD or Plasma-TV?

When I recently got a widescreen monitor, twinview with clone could not work because the aspect ratios are different. So I switched to running multi-screens, each screen with its own resolution. To watch movies on the TV I invoke "DISPLAY=:0.1 mplayer -fs movie.avi". Works well and I can even use the monitor for other stuff. Using mplayer-29318-1.

So that means I got to run 2 X sessions instead of xinerama?

That's just what I do. And it works fine for me. I have never used xinerama so wouldn't know what to say about it.

Ok I'll try that one! Would you be so kind to post your Xorg?

Yes, but that also:
1) stretches the aspect ratio
2) Does not add black bars so I still miss a part on the screen.

A little late, but thanks a lot stryder! It works very good and I also noticed the quality seems better with your setup

One last addition, I noticed my mouse couldn't go to the right-top of the screen anymore. Strange, but I fixed it by removing RightOf "Screen0" from the config.
