can any one suggest a good wmv to mpeg converter?

I have always preferred ffmpeg.If you want a GUI, avidemux might suit you better

As has been mentioned already, avidemux. It has a nice GUI, and it does the job well.

You could also use winff, which is a gui for ffmpeg. avidemux is also good, as mentioned already
