Who is with me and want to bet 9.6 won;t have support for neither 2.6.29 nor 2.6.30 kernel?
I want to be the first one to make this public, I really don't think catalyst 9.6 will compile with kernel 2.6.30. Why? Obvious, they only support ubuntu fedora and suse, none of them have that kernel, nor will for a long time.

@kensai
In ubuntu 9.10 alpha 2, kernel 2.6.30 is in it. So I think ati may add up adding support for 2.6.30 cause of that.

They say, they don't support alpha releases.
They not even support stable releases ;-).

I bet that they will not even improve 9.6 driver and this will be next 9.4 with changed number .

The new kernel did make my glxgear score higher.
180 with kernel 2.6.29
230 with kernel 2.6.30
I know this my not be that big of a jump but its something.
PS This is with using the open source ati driver.

kensai won the jackpot!

, who bet that 9.7 will not support 2.6.30 too?

Hurray, another useless release and no support for stable kernel.

@FallenWizard, yay! I won, yay! me!
@Mazur, I will win this one two, 9.7 will not have 2.6.29 nor .30 support. We will see 2.6.30 support by 9.9 or 9.10 release. I hope I am wrong in this last one, but unfortunately you all know there is a possibility.
If it weren't because xf86-video-ati causes a weird two lines flickering in my display I would have switch.

Are you using HD3200? I got this card and I am running on xf86-video-radeonhd, if you will use mesa-GIT, radeonhd-GIT with kernel26-GIT. It will give you support for 3d (not yet great) and KMS. I got like 3FPS without 3D support on such stupid games like Super Maryo but it will improve to even 10FPS!

You are mistaken, the kernel has no support for KMS with R6xx cards yet.

My bad, I was not sure about this. Then what is supported for now?

I am playing around with the driver, trying to create a patch that will turn off all that goddamn debugging code that is flooding the kernel logs.
Also, for those that want to use 2.6.30, read this monk's wise words.

I took out all the KCL_DEBUG_TRACE* calls, and that got rid of most of the SPAM except the drm_vm_open errors. Everything seems to still work, but the driver dumps whenever I leave the X server. I didn't try to restart the X server after it did, though, to see what would happen.
BTW, I don't know (much) about C (only a semester's worth of C++), so maybe someone who actually knows what they are doing might can figure this out better.

I'm thinking about using the 2.6.28 kernel for fglrx so I don't have to use the patch, I'm having wine issues with gl_out_of_memory errors and I think it could be related to the log messages.

Hi guys, you want to get catalyst 9.6 working with kernel 2.6.30, here are the instructions:

Maybe you could change PKGBUILD to do it? Like you done with kernel 2.6.28 and kernel 2.6.29 in testing, so just uncomment #.

I am still working around in my head to provide this in an automated way to the users, but because of lack of time I can't right now, and maybe not even tomorrow, so I'll try my best. I think I will crate a repository, maybe that will keep you upgraded with the latest kernel 2.6.30 patched as tobias makes them available.

It could be cool. Great job anyway.
