Hello, Im currently an Ubuntu user and I was looking at the Arch way and all the Simple-oriented things Arch has to offer.
But I need to use kernel 2.6.30 with the new intel graphic drivers. And, I want to use kde 4.3 beta 2 as I've read is pretty stable.
Well, I have seen that Arch is using kernel 6.29 (I think) and Kde 4.2.4 so I was wondering: With all the things I've read about the cutting edge rolling-update distro that Arch is, Is it missing those testing packages??
Thanks.

The latest kernel is in the [testing] repo and there is also a repo for the latest kde beta.

Hi,
we have different repos here, similar to the ones in ubuntu.
For example the testing repository and iirc the kernel .30 is already in there.
However, after testing the kernel will move very quick into the stable
repository. So you can install arch, setup to use the testing repo and install
the .30 kernel.
Or wait a certain amount of time and you will get the new kernel via update.
The same is valid for kde. I have been using the kdemod for a long time and
they offer an unstable repo to with the actual beta of kde 4.3.

You don't actually need kdemod for kde-4.3 beta. There is a repo maintained by the kde devs preparing for the KDE-4.3 release. See: http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 05741.html

Ok, I just read around the chakra project web page but I still want a normal technical Arch installation. I need to have a functional distro in my PC and it seems Arch takes a while to be installed and ready for everyday use. So I'm thinking about some kind of dual boot. I've never messed with GRUB and I'm not sure how to proceed, Is there some kind of guide that covers that approach?
Thanks

The beginner's guide and the wiki in general should cover most of your arch/linux related questions.
