What mixer is used for USB audio in kernel 2.6.9?
How is the mixer enabled?
Edit..........................................................................................................
Mixer enabled after inserting ...snd_usb_audio.. in /etc/rc.conf modules as the first ....snd...module.
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

hmmm, well alsamixer should work, providing udev populates the proper device nodes for the usb device... not sure though

phrakture;
In kernel 2.4.28 KDE refers to ...USB Audio Class Driver as an alternate "mixer" to the PCI mixer. The driver does connect XMMS to the usb audio device. Control of volume may be or may not be....
However, in 2.6.9 KDE has no reference to any secondary mixer.
This would indicate that KDE support has been omitted.
Is that not logical?

hmm,
well, it may have something to do with the kernel, but i'd point more towards KDE.... or possibly modules...
make sure the right usb modules are loaded (ehci-hcd, et al) as well as the audio module for the device...
most likely this creates some sort of device node in /dev... look around... if there is something, check permissions...

Spent many hours chasing this item in all areas.
I find that Knoppix 3.4 Live CD with kernel 2.6.5 supplies USB audio but requires that the boot cheatcode....knoppix26 alsa be entered. Then the audio is enabled in the alsa mixer as a PCM icon with volume control enabled.
I do not then find the PCI mixer capability.
In STUX Live CD it is possible to utilize both USB audio and PCI audio simultaneously. The KDE mixer reference therein is....USB Audio Class Driver.. STUX is kernel 2.4.28.
In archlinux KDE there is no reference to any mixer other than PCI. This suggests that KDE has been modified to drop the reference.
Alsamixer in KDE arch 2.6.9 shows PCI.
Command line ....alsamixer -c1 does not produce an alternate mixer.
As we go further in kernel changes, the behinder we get!

I wonder what is provided in KDE in kernel 2.6.8?
