Flash works incorrectly after being open for a period of time(Firefox)

Firefox - GranParadiso/3.0.6
Flash - official plugin, 10.0 r22
XOrg - no compositing, using Catalyst 9.2-1, happens with all WM's

If I keep Firefox open overnight and then try to play a Flash video it has no sound and stops after a few seconds. Restarting Firefox fixes this. Is there a real solution?

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. Flash may not have sound at all or it flickers hard. Video isn't also running smoothly and as for ProducedRaw, restarting FF helps.

Sometimes (not sure if these are releated) I lose all my system sounds (devices busy), except flash sound. Again, restarting FF fixes it.

Turn on system monitor (any would do, like htop), and monitor Flash processes. You'll noticed that for every flash object on a page, a new instance is opened and that every instance competes for every available CPU time. Greedy bastards. Also, memory consumption would probably go up as well. So yeah, if you let it run for hours, I expect that it will either make a cooker out of your CPU or run out of memory, especially if it has a memory leak.

Having this issue right now and specs are quite average for firefox (8 tabs open, 1 of them contains a flash banner):
CPU: 5-10, sometimes jumps to ~20 for a sec
MEM: ~21

There have been some updates by now, but still nothing. All system sounds and mpd stop playing and all I have to do, is to restart firefox.

Re: Flash works incorrectly after being open for a period of time(Firefox)

I registered to post this exact same question hmm

My symptoms are similiar, but the video still plays, just the sound is broken (it stays like a broken record on a single blip while the video moves on). Restarting firefox fixes the problem.

I read elsewhere (this forums archive) that compiling alsa into the kernel instead of as a module might help fix the problem

Perhaps you could test that my making sure no ALSA modules are loaded (move /lib/modules/x.x.xx-ARCH/kernel/sound/ and reboot, also disable the ALSA daemon. You could also try using OSS4 instead of ALSA -- it's worth a shot, and tends to use less resources than ALSA in my experience, though I think this is more a case of Flash itself being a pig.

You could also try the Gnash project for a Free Software Flash plugin. It's quite immature, but I believe it runs YouTube semi-OK, and resource usage should be _much_ lower (Flash has terrible video decoders I know at least, libavcodec destroys it). Worst case it's just a test.

I have this issue sometimes, both when using Windows and when using Linux. Not a huge issue for me tho, just have to restart it.

Never had this in windows (not that I use it much). However, switching completely to OSS seems to solve it - so far so good, so it's worth trying!

Re: Flash works incorrectly after being open for a period of time(Firefox)

Now, i have the sam problem... after firefox is running for some time, flash becomes laggy and sound stops working, or becomes laggy as well. Restarting firefox helps but this is no real solution... The interesting part is that this happens only in firefox. Epiphany works great, but i never tried to open as many tab as in firefox and then run some flash movie... I would be very thankful if someone could help.
Running Archlinux i686 GNOME, Firefox 3.0.11, flashplugin 10.0.22.87-1, soundcard HDA intel
