[SOLVED] Gran Paradiso doesn't open internal windows

Hi everyone.
After running Arch for some time now, I'm now flummoxed by my browser:
After a system update today, I experience some funny behaviour with my Gran Paradiso / Firefox. Everything works fine except for the fact that I can't open any GP-internal windows any more, such as Edit -> "Preferences", Tools -> "Addons", Help -> "About", etc. Also downloads don't work any more because GP can't open the download window. My window list shows that a new window has opened, but it doesn't show it on the desktop. Same in safe-mode. When opening from the console I get this warning:

(firefox:13703): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
None of the authentication protocols specified are supported.

Not too sure if it's related, couldn't find anything on it on the net.

Anyone similar problems or suggestions?
Thanks in advanced
Jack

PS: just for clarification: pop-ups still work
