So I did a reinstall of Arch and noticed that hwd is no longer available in the repo. Well I was able to get Arch going with the no Xorg option, but I really wanted hwd back as it was a lot easier to setup my Synaptic mouse side scroll (but I wanted it before a WM setup).

Add this to your /etc/pacman.conf
Then do Pacman -Sy yaourt
Once that is done do yaourt hwd
And enjoy hwd
I doubt this will be major for a lot of you but it sure helped me out a lot.
EDIT: Other benefit I got from installing yaourt this soon was being able to compile a lot of packages before I got to my DE/WM.

If it's not in the regular repos, it's usually in AUR:

I understand that. That is why I added the mirror to my pacman.conf so I can install yaourt which allows me to access AUR without a web browser or a gui front end.

Two things, for anyone reading this:
1. hwd was deprecated because there are better ways of doing what it does.
2. Installing yaourt from a repo so you can access the AUR is certainly easy, but it is strongly recommended that AUR users should learn the underlying processes first. Full details in the wiki.
