I use both Arch and Gentoo and Ive just found what I thought was a great idea in the Gentoo forums.
What do people think?

There was an project like this, but using google earth files, i gues this way with using maps is simpler & better
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

I really like it... would be cool to see the coverage Arch gets globally.
The software required Windows XP or better, so I installed archlinux.

But what does it do?

well yes, stuff like that seems fun and interesting at first, until you realise that people come from everywhere anyway. user maps are all the same, there used to be an Ubuntu map (maybe still exists) that looked exactly like that Gentoo map. ![]()

This reminds me of an idea I had some time ago. Have every distro add an option on the install to add yourself to a user base on a website to track how many people are really using Linux. I know there is there is already a site like that, but something automated with every user would be cool (and you could opt out of registering during installation). A list of users like that could definately help out with gaining hardware support (or perhaps proprietary software if you're into that).

The source code for gentoo-users.org is free and open-source at http://code.google.com/p/genmap/
It is a Django app (GeoDjango) and uses PostgreSQL (with PostGIS extensions)
