the 185.18* series seems to be the only one that works with the *30 kernel, but I can't get into kde with this driver loaded.
I can get kdm to start fine. when i login, either normal or failsafe session, it just starts the splash but never progresses past the second icon.
I don't even know where to begin but I ran nvidia-xconfig with these drivers, with no difference
Edit: forgot to mention i'm running kde 4.3 beta 2 (4.2.90). i'm not positive, but i think i remember that on 4.2 from repos it would drop back to kdm with the 185.18* drivers

Maybe and for some reason I don't know you could try by deleting the configuration files of kde, I forget exactly which hidden file it is since I use kde just in a virtual machine.
Or and easier step is to create a new user and try to log in.

I gave this a shot and had the same result... anything else?
I've googled but not found anything. Is there some option that needs to be on or off in Xorg?
my card is a geforce 8200 on my laptop

That's interesting, maybe you should report to kde guys. I have kernel 2.6.30-4 and nvidia 185.18.14.1 and it is working well with gnome. I remember I had some problems when I updated but they were related to pm-hibernate and I decided to update everything from the testing repo and reinstalled kernel and nvidia. I don't know if that would help you but you can try if you want to.
If that doesn't help, you better go back to the previous kernel and nvidia packages.

i can confirm this... it does start for me tho, but behaves very oddly (no screen refresh)

Sorry guys (although not directly related to the topic), this is for those of you which have 185.18.14 and 2.6.30, could you please check out this topic? http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=62079&p=1 - people are in desperate need of help.
Btw, I currently have 2.6.30 with nvidia 180.51 (custom from abs) and it would work nice, if it wasn't the problem in the url above.
