Re: Framebuffer on boot stopped working all of a sudden :S

neutral +1.

k2.6.30-custom, nvidia-180.51. If vga=whatever is added to kernel line, it boots, but i can't see anything. with my other kernel 2.6.29 it displays everything nicely, i can have my framebuffer. I'm gonna try and compile again, maybe deactivated something important by mistake.
I want my fb!!!

edit: kernel recompiled; payed more attention on framebuffer devices, don't enable nvidia fb, but leave other vesa fb options on. smile it's working like it should now. hurray!!! big_smile

Re: Framebuffer on boot stopped working all of a sudden :S

It's quite the same for me with nvidia driver from repo and .29 kernel. However, if I pass vga=ask and select for example "i" for 318 (1024x768x32) it works perfectly. I found no way to automate this process...

Edit: I played around some more and if I set vga=0x0318 it works at boot.
It's very confusing, that every tool uses different values for the same setting, especially, that I can't use the value that vga=ask tells me...

Re: Framebuffer on boot stopped working all of a sudden :S

custom kernels from vanilla or zen
nvidia Go 7400
nvidia driver 180.53 from binary, not from Arch repos
kernel line includes vga=792

I don't have any problems, but there may be a difference between your hardware and mine plus obvious kernel/video software setup

Re: Framebuffer on boot stopped working all of a sudden :S

i posted about this around 2-3 weeks ago & got zero replies but I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I updated some weeks back, rebooted & well my fb went bye-bye.  AFAIK it wasn't an Xorg update that screwed it up either.  I'd love to know what is messing this up in the first place too.  Also my other computer (main system) has an Nvidia card too and it works fine with no FB issues at all.   The screwed up system has an nvidia 7600 gtx, the main one (which is fine) has an 8800GT.  What the hell?
