I am loosing my marbles trying to reset the screen-blanker timeout in xfce, currently it is about 4 minutes.
I went through all the default xfce4 settings but all I could achieve was to increase to "set monitor to standby" time to 30 minutes by setting it at 60 minutes but the screen still blanks in the middle of me reading a page.
Can anybody tell me what add-on I need to correctly adjust this setting?
Also, can anybody tell me how to stop xfce4 from switching num-lock off?

Check out the output of "xset -q" (DPMS section) for blanking/turning off times.
If your screen turns off while you provide input then it's a different problem.

There's a simple app "numlockx" (in official repos) to do exactly that. Add it to your apps starting with your XFCE session (just "numlockx", no options) and you're done.
