log file for the output of the boot process (starting deamons etc.)

After upgrading to the 3.6.30 kernel, I noticed an error that occurred as my modules were getting loaded which flashed by for a fraction of a second before my login prompt cleared the screen.  Is the output of a normal system boot logged somewhere as it appears on the screen?  I know about /var/log/dmesg.log but I can't seem to locate the error in it.

or else ctrl-alt-f1 to switch to the command line and scroll up to see what the error was.

@perbh - upgrade your system and I'm sure you'll pull it down.  Also, the wording isn't contained in dmesg at all.
@bregol - C+A+F1 only displays the login prompt - all the debug messages aren't shown.

Re: log file for the output of the boot process (starting deamons etc.)

ok, when it gets done booting, vc1 (the screen with the login prompt) displays the contents of /etc/issue and then the login prompt.  the default for this file has ^[[H^[[2J which clears the screen.  so those messages disappear and it puts up the login prompt.

sudo mv /etc/issue /etc/issue.old

now it will not clear the screen before the login prompt and you should hopefully be able to see what it is saying.

btw, alt-f7 to go back to the graphical login (in case you didn't know)
