Does anyone know how to capture the video stream from this website: http://wikicode.frihost.net/new.html
If I can just figure out what the FLV source is, I can download the file...

Gnash (or maybe it was Swfdec -- I forget) has the ability to rip streams from Flash videos.

There's a plugin for firefox called video downloadhelper (sic) that can detect lots of flash videos and such and download em from a site if you click the little arrow next to it on your menu bar (note you need to start the video before it's detected, and you need to leave on most sites before it will download afair). Try using that to grab it from the site, assuming that's what you mean you want.

FrozenFox: Yeah, I tried 'Video DownloadHelper' but to no avail - it doesn't seem to be able to pick it up...
DevoidOfWindows: Thanks - I might give those a shot if I can't find a way to do it with any programme I've already got.
Is there a way to do it with VLC? Or Wireshark?

Have you tried looking in /tmp when you have the movie open?

Procyon: Just tried that. The only file I see changing/appearing when I open the stream is a .js config file. I also tried running updatedb and locate *.flv while the video is playing, but also to no avail.
JK3mp: Yeah, I see there are a lot, but I am wondering if anyone is able to download this specific video (or locate the flv): http://wikicode.frihost.net/new.html because it is a special case - an embedded swf with no apparent FLV location... I'll keep looking...

The flv file might actually download to your cache somewhere -- the reason you wouldn't find it is it probably isn't called *.flv, rather it's likely some string of characters with no file extension. But if you can find the corresponding file and rename to .flv it might work.

You want the flashgot plugin for firefox to do this. See the Firefox wiki article for a link.
CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

I can't even connect to the link the OP provided.

Try NetVideoHunter.

I get a 404 with the link to the wanted video but...
With Firefox, Flash videos are saved to Firefox's cache by default. Usually the cache directory is '~/.mozilla/firefox/<some garbage characters here>/Cache/'
Flash videos are most often large files, at least 3 Mb or more. Try this method to save them.
Wait until the target video has fully loaded in the browser and pause it (or keep it paused) then check the Firefox cache directory. The video file is usually easy to determine, it will have a very recent time stamp and a large size. Note that the cached videos will not be the files labeled '_CACHE_???_'. Rename the candidate video file, giving it a '.flv' or even a '.swf' extension. VLC, version 1.0+, will then be able to play the file.
I don't know if this method works with '*.avi' or '*.wmv' files. It works for me with Flash.
