Hi, after a problematic future with alsa, I wanted to try to make OSSv4 work. I installed xine-lib-oss, and made the "Write the following line to ~/.xine/config audio.driver:oss " file. I get sound from those application that handle OSS, but Xine will not. When I start KDE it ask me if I want to remove the entry of my soundcard from the multimedia list... Are there any tweaks to make it work with Xine? Is it a bad idea to try with Phonon-Gstreamer since they will stop making it?

Good question jerik. I tried the xine-lib-oss that I saw in the wiki too. I did get startup/shutdown sounds but no to Amarok. Looks like the config needs to be edited, guess the wiki needs more details.

Hmm, I don't even get those sounds. Do you get your soundcard listed and selectable in KDE's controlpanel? Mine is grayed out.

This is strange. I'm not using KDE anymore (uninstalled last week) but everything just worked "out of the box" for me. That was kdemod mind you but I have used the Arch flavour before also with no problems with OSS.

Think that kdemod uses the orginal oss.

No, mine was grayed out too. "I got the falling back to ." Probably should've tried with more applications beside amarok. I did notice that kmix didn't start though.

Hmm, now with the new kernel and a fresh install... ALSA actually is satisfying. Flash, VLC, Amarok, you name it - everything plays - even at the same time. Even skype works out of the box!!!
