Fluxbox not starting

Hello.

Just installed Arch on a laptop of mine and everything through the install process went fine. I installed Nvidia drivers and had the script create my xorg. However, something odd happens. As a non-root user neither X or Fluxbox starts. When I issue the startx command, it fails. When I try to start Fluxbox the error says it cannot connect to XServer. As root, when I start X I get all of the Xterm sessions and everything seems fine. When I attempt to start Fluxbox, I get the same cannot connect to XServer error.

To make it more confusing, if I have xterm in .xinitrc, and I startx, an xterm session opens for the non-root user. But, after logging in, xterm does not start at logon.

The non-root user is in the video group as well.

Thanks.

***After more and more tweaking. Changing exec startfluxbox to simply exec fluxbox started it. Still won't start on log on though...

Re: Fluxbox not starting

ok, I'm not entirely sure I follow you, but your current problem is that X and fluxbox isn't automatically started when you log in at the prompt?

If that is the case, then you probably whant to add "startx" to the end of your /home/.bash_profile

Re: Fluxbox not starting

Can you post the .xinitrc that fails?

Re: Fluxbox not starting

Did you try
ck-launch-session startfluxbox
in .xinitrc ?
Is .xinitrc executable?

Re: Fluxbox not starting

Thanks.

The issue was to clarify, sorry about the confusion, was that Fluxbox wasn't starting. It seemed that .xinitrc didn't like simply "exec startfluxbox". However, using "ck-launch-session startfluxbox" worked. I used chmod 400 as I think there might have been a permission issue there as well because I realized I couldn't edit it with the user account. One might have worked and the other one might not but its good now so thats all that matters.

Thanks for all the help. Only spent about 5 hours on Arch but must say I love it so far!
