Sorry for spaming threads...
But I think opening a new is better since it's a completely different topic
What about displying the percentage of the whole package donloading process?
Here's what i mean:
:: Retrieving packages from core...
(08%) gcc-libs-4.4.0-3-i686 1860.4K 46.2K/s 00:00:40 [##############################] 100%
(33%) pcre-7.9-1-i686 651.8K 45.7K/s 00:00:14 [##############################] 100%
(75%) glib2-2.20.3-1-i686 2.3M 45.9K/s 00:00:52 [##############################] 20%
So this would be quite like the package number display in the actual update process...
( 2/23) upgrading pcre [#######################################] 100%
( 3/23) upgrading glib2 [#######################################] 100%
( 4/23) upgrading libdatrie [#######################################] 100%
( 5/23) upgrading libthai [#######################################] 100%
( 6/23) upgrading pango [######################################] 100%

I think you should look at "man pacman.conf"... Specifically the "TotalDownload" section
