arduino cannot find usb port

The arduino IDE cannot find my usb port on linux.  There is no /dev/*usb* or something device for me to use, but when I plug a usb flash drive in, in works.
I have a macbook 2G and arduino decimila, and I was using /dev/ttyUSB0.
