"Unknown Hardware" problem after 2.6.30 upgrade

Hi guys,

I wonder if you could help me. I really love the rolling release concept of Arch and I don't wanna go back to distro hopping. I have a HP 540 laptop and I upgraded from 2.6.29 to 2.6.30 several days ago. After the upgrade I get a message during boot that states:

Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Analog Devices AD1981" "HDA:11d41981, 103c3618, 00100200 HDA:11c11040, 103c1378, 00100200" "0x103c" "0x3618"
Hardware is initialized using a guess method

I didn't have that error before the upgrade. Now, wifi is not working. Other things seem to be working fine. I haven't tested my mobile broadband yet. I'm using my Linux Mint 7 live cd to type this.

Please help me. Thanks.

Running alsaconf as root should fix the boot error.  However, this is not related to your wifi issue.

Run alsamixer as normal user, unmute all the channels and run as root 'alsactl store'.
Give us some more info about your wireless card settings and possibly some logs.

Welcome to the forums.

Some advice: the audio 'problem' has been covered a few times, I warmly suggest you do a forum search. It shows you made a (minimal) effort. The suggestions made above will probably fix it.

As for your wifi problems: our crystal bowls are in backorder.

Re: "Unknown Hardware" problem after 2.6.30 upgrade

I actually did a forum search. I also googled the problem. But since I don't have a problem with my sound I didn't try the solutions for sound. I don't have an xorg.conf file if that helps. I'm a total newb and i need help on which commands will show my wifi card settings. I will try it tonight as I will be at work the whole day.

Re: "Unknown Hardware" problem after 2.6.30 upgrade

Ok I tried alsaconf and now the boot error is gone. I'll try to fix the wifi problem when I get home and connect using a wired connection. Thanks to you guys and especially to loafer who suggested i use alsaconf.
