Hard Disk Diagnostics

I had been getting strange errors so I tried running SpinRite but it stopped, saying my hard disk was over 133 deg F. Are there some linux tools I can run check if my hard disk is becoming unstable? What temperature should my drive be at normaly?

Re: Hard Disk Diagnostics

Any given hard disk should be kept somewhere below 50°C, preferably not too cold as well. I'd say 30-40°C is a good range but your mileage might vary. As for tools, there are always the smartmontools and hddtemp which will serve you fine in this case.
