I have a lot of problems with my kde since a month ago,
1) I can't open Jdownloader, when I run the executable it loads but when the main window opens the screen begins to flicker and then all freeze up and crashes.
2)I can't see videos with XV output driver (only hear the sound) and when Playing a video on full screen i've got a bottom and top transparent margins (with GL output)
3)Amarok 2.1 crashes randomly with this message:"The application Amarok (amarok) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)." and I can't see the middle window with the miniapllications (It Shows the kde4 Aire wallpaper)
I'm running Arch64 with kernel 2.6.29.4-1 and Kdemod4.2.3-2.
My video card is Nvidia 8600GT with the 180.51 Nvidia drivers.
and my Xorg is 1.6.1.901-1.
I don't know if all this issues are related, but all of them appeared after y one upgrade, but i can't remember the packages.
Please help me to identify the issues

Just wondering, KDE 4.2.4 is in the repos now, have you updated to that?
Edit: Oops, I see you're running kdemod, nvm

I am still searching for the connection between KDE and your problems...
However...
1) Try to disable compositing / desktop effects. JDownloader runs fine here on my KDEmod system, even with compositing, but i remember some breakage with Java when using desktop effects.
2) Probably the GL output is the reason
3) Tried to delete/move your amarok configs?
Edit: typo

1- Without desktop effects JDownloader runs fine, but it worked fine with the desktop effects before.
2- i'm usin GL because XV does not work anymore, you think it could be an Nvidia problem ?
3- Deleted all the conf. and reinstalled the package but the issue continues.

I'm not using ArchLinux anymore since May, but I saw this thread from other forum (www.elotrolado.net) so I came here to explain you where is the problem
It's related to NVIDIA drivers and JDownloader icon in the system tray on KDE4. Just disable the icon in the system tray from the JDownloader plugins and the problem won't appear anymore. You can find more info here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=133913
In order to run JDownloader at least one time to disable it, you can remove the system tray from the KDE panel, run JDownloader and then disable the plugin. You can also configure the system tray so it hides the JDownloader icon by default, and then disable the plugin.
I hope that helps you, and I'm sorry about my English, I'm Spanish

Thank you very much sergio! Odd, but this solved the problem.

the problem is not jdownloader. maybe the problem is nvidia related.
This [0] simple code for example will also cause the failure, with or without kwin effects.
The problem is not reproducible under Gnome desktop.
