[SOLVED] OSS and Nvidia problem.

Hi.
I'd like you to help me with (probably) a really simple problem, which I'd probably fix after spending some time on forums. I know it may seem even offensive/rude, but I am really busy and just don't have time to read all those topics and crashing of my system is yet another time-consuming issue.
It started like this:
I was playing a game using wine on fullscreen, the resolution was 800x600. Once I quit, it didn't go back to 1680x1050 (which is my default res), so I decided to restart xorg - nothing happened. Then I checked my xorg.conf. Everything was fine in this conf.
Using xrandr gives me this:

Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   800x600 61.0*
   640x480 60.0

I tried using nvidia-settings and nvidia-xconfig too with no results.
In desperation I used "pacman -Syu" and rebooted my system.
After that OSS stoped to work and there was no change in graphics.
Also this:

sudo /etc/rc.d/oss start
:: Starting Open Sound System [BUSY] Relinking OSS kernel modules for "2.6.30-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload 686 "
This may take few moments - please stand by...

OSS build environment set up for REGPARM kernels

Re: [SOLVED] OSS and Nvidia problem.

I that problem with OSS. You need to update to the latest version. pacman will report that you are actually downgrading because the packager numbered the package incorrectly.

BTW, without sounding too rude myself, if you don't have the time to spare to fix your system then maybe you should try another distro without rolling releases.

Thanks, OSS starts now, but for some reason sound comes out only from subwoofer. Settings in ossmix seem to be ok.

It's just that I don't have time right now. I've been using Arch for more than a year now and am pretty satisfied so far.

I don't know about the volume settings. Mine were adjusted a little too. Try playing around with ossxmix

Ok, I've fixed it, but am too embarrassed  to even write about it. Video issue still remains. It's as if my card is not even installed, even though I installed nvidia-96xx (my card is Geforce 4)

Re: [SOLVED] OSS and Nvidia problem.

As far as I can recall, some of the nvidia drivers for older cards (I guess the Geforce 4 would count) do not support the latest xorg-server. Check the nvidia linux forums for that, but I reckon that MIGHT be your issue.

That's the solution. Now everything works fine. Thank you.
